Recent Nominations
Please feel free to look at NHS Basingstoke’s recent nominations for The WOW! Awards!
During the snow I has to stay overnight in the sevite rooms. It was the end of a long, busy week away from home for me and she explained the process and was really helpful. Sharmay was exceptionally kind and compassionate and her manner was warm, friendly and confident - just what I needed. Sharnay made a very difficult time much easier for me. She is an asset to the team. Thank you.
The staff have worked so hard to keep paths and roads clear and have gone about there work so cheerful and have always helped people as much as possible. They deserve a pay rise!!
Well done. We think they deserve a big thank you. It was a welcome sight to see the car park as safe and clear as possible after a hard drive/walk to get here. The car park staff have been very helpful and ensured that we have been able to park somewhere and the paths have been kepy clear. In the recent conditions we have had they certianly get our WOW! Award nomination.
Lucy was extremely consientous when looking after me in intensive care. She would often miss going for her break because she would not leave me while I was so ill. She was also very considerate and compassionate to my parents at a very difficult time for our family. I would also like to commend her professionalism in carrying out her work.
Cheerful under all conditions and never heard to complain however arduous or awkward the job.
Always looking to help anyone in whatever need, even spoon feeding a 98 year old man.
Taking care to keep a watch on me learning to walk again.
I have now been welcomed twice by this nurse at the TDC. The first time, I thought her welcome was brilliant, the second time did not alter from the first. Her smile, her professional approach, everything that makes you at ease, everything she did for me was brilliant. She epitomised all that the NHS stood for.
Excellent job clearing heavy snow 24/7
During a recent Noroviros outbreak the staff on MAU worked quickly and effectively to reduce the spread of infectiion to other patients and staff. Their efforts ensured that a potentially serious outbreak was dealt with in a timely, effective way, and that within a period of 1 week it was udner control, and resolved within 9 days. Well done to everyone who made such a big effort to achieve this.
Since the start of the snow, all the Estates & Maintainance staff have gone above and beyond to ensure that the hospital was kept as accessable as possible.
They have been in clearing the roads and footpaths as much as possible, and when cars have been snowbound they have helped to dig them out, or push them.
They worked extra hours, tried to keep the main roads to and from the hospital clear and have kept in good spirits. They deserve a payrise.
'd like to nominate John Bunyon and the Maintenance crew for a Wow Award. During and following the snowfall on 21/12/2009 they seemed to be everywhere, shovelling, salting and generally ensuring that everyone was able to get into & from all parts of the hospital safely. I happened to be in the hospital from the early hours of the Tuesday morning and everywhere I went, or whenever I looked out of a window, I seemed to see them working tirelessly in the cold. They kept on going all day, despite having been here continuously during the bad weather, and every time I spoke to them or overheard them talking to patients & other staff, they remained cheerful and upbeat. As a result of their hard work and fantastic morale all of us, patients and staff, were able to get around safely and comfortably, and the hospital itself remained as clean and tidy as possible. (The next day they were cleaning and polishing in the entrance to deal with the inevitable mess that we all tramped into the hospital). They are a great example of the team spirit that helps keep this hospital in the top league. I commend them to you and am convinced they deserve an award. Happy Christmas.
On Wednesday 2nd December 2009 my wife Betty fell in the street and dislocated her shoulder. I took her immediately to A&E where everyone from reception, triage and treatment dealt with her promptly, courteously and with great care and sympathy.
In particular, Nurse Carole Spiers ensured that we both knew what was happening and ensures that Betty remained as comfortable as possible.
Paul and Yvonne cheered me up no end during my emergency admission on Tues/Weds (early hours) to MAU. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They cared about everyone on the ward; their physical and emotional wellbeing. I can honestly say that if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be feeling as I do now.
I had a problem, and they listened and actioned as they contacted Maggie; who was absolutely brilliant. Between them I am feeling much better now than I have done since March 2008.
What can I say?? I owe them a great deal and I hope that this is passed onto Mary Edwards so she can see what valuable personnl she has.
I was at the end of my tether as I felt invisable trying to get help since March 2008.
Jacky has gone out of her way to be as pleasing as anyone could ever be. Her helpfulness is "exemplary". No-one else has ever given such loving, caring treatment in the whole of my years at the hospital. he is above "excellence". Thank you Jacky :-)
Human Papilloma virus (HPV) is the main cause of cervical cancer. The Department of Health launched a national progarmme with three injections for all girls aged 12-13 years old in September 2008 (3,000 children in North Hampshire). The BNHFT School Health Team, which includes nurses, nursery nurses, administrative staff and doctors have been pivotal in acheiving an uptake of 85%, in line with Hampshire PCT's target.
This success has been mainly due to the dedication of a committed team, working tirelessly to ensure that young people, parents and schools feel confident to participate in this new health initiative. The team have been procative in providing talks on the vaccine to young people, parents and schools as well as advising and supporting individuals who have been anxious about the new vaccine and injections. Alongside this the team have continued to support children and families in other public health areas, for example, obesity, emotional health and vulnerable children.
Safety within this challenging programme has been met by high quality training, close attention to appropraite skill mix and open lines of communication between administrative, nursing and back-up medical staff.
Environmental and Sustainability Category:
Conscious of environmental factors, one member of the team, Melanie Goslin (School Nurse) has been instrumental in changing th eprocess for disposing of used vaccine packaging. All of this is now collected in separate re-cycling bags.
BNHFT is rightly renowned internationally for its surgical innovation and techniques. I would like to nominate Suzette for this award in recognition of the work she has done in designing and delivering an educational programme for members of staff in the Theatres. The provision of the advanced skills required by theatre practitioners is crucial to patient safety and the quality of services provided by the Trust as a whole. Surgery by its very nature is a team endeavour and thus I would like to add the wider team to the award nomination.
The programme Suzette has designed enables both new and established members of staff to consider their practice from both a theoretical and practical viewpoint, underpinned by extensive reflection. It has been designed as a work based learning experience and attracts academic credit from Southampton University. This enables people completing the course to use their experience towards larger programmes such as degree level study.
Suzette has worked incredibly hard on putting together both the taught and practical compenents of this course and I know that the people presently going through it are finding it both educational and challenging. There have also been expressions of interest from other surgical units in the course. The theatre team have been instrumental in both supporting and undertaking the course. This is a fantastic example of how innovation can both develop practitioners and promote the Trust's reputation as a leading provider of surgical excellence.
For 3 years running, the catering department have been involved
with the Director of Nursing awards, supporting & serving champagne, canapes
and delicious chocolate strawberries!
I would like to nominate them for a WoW! award, as this year in particular , they went
above and beyond their duties when the British weather was against us! Table
and chair removals was not anticipated as part of their duties on the evening but
a team spirited approach to help out in the situation was gratefully received.
Thank you !
I would like to nominate Daniel Mckinlay, Wendy Spencer, Shahnaaz Malik and Chris Faulkner healthcare assistants on C4 for this award as they have all paid their part in implementing productive ward on C4. They have all taken on individual tasks including designing the patient status board, redesigning the treatment room and attending study days to feedback to the trained nurses. Without them C4 would not be as far forward with this project as we are. They all take ownership for productive ward and are more than happy to show senior people around our ward to proudly show how we have developed.
This nomination is made on behalf othe Trust Consultative commitee at the request of the chair of that commitee. members of the TCC wanted to recognise the really hard work of Domestic Services teams throughout the Trust, which routinely goes well beyond the normal call of duty.
extract from the TCC meeting
"praise for the sterling efforts of cleaning staff in keeping the hospital clean it was suggested that this should be recognised".
Nothing is too much trouble for Jim. He's always smiling & happy to help both the staff
and patients. He is a people person, friendly, charming and aways willing to go the extra
mile to help patients & staff. Despite the pressures of his work, Jim always has a smile
to share and kind words to brighten our stressful day!
Jim Works hard and even when busy and called to get samples or bring any equipment during
the night shift, he is always keen and good tempered. I have never heard him complain or
become grumpy when called so many times into ITU
Andrew is a kind and caring nurse. He relates well to the patients and staff. He explains proceedures and treatments to the patients and gives them confidence.
He is always cheerful and has a great sense of humour.
We wish he could be on duty all the time!
Rose has worked at B'stoke and North Hants for nearly 30 years. That in itself is amazing. She covers many different clinics within O.P.D. Rose is respected by many consultants and staff.
Rose also trains new staff members and helps to train them in their roles. Rose works well beyond her title role and she is very caring, and has a loving familiar face to re-visiting patients.
I think Rose's dedication to B'stoke and North Hants should be recongnised and all the hard work she has done over the 30 years.
She is trustworthy, hard working, and after recovering from Breast Cancer and nursing a terminally ill husband work is still her main priority in life.
That deserves a WOW!
I have known Nurse A. Brember for a number of years, and on every visit, have found her to be most kind, caring, and with a wonderful sense of humour and well deserving of an award.
Last July our daughter was taken into hospital and spent time in the short stay ward of A&E.
However, she was extremely fortunate to be cared for by a superb team, in particular Colin Richards.
He was just incredible. His care was second to none. not just with the main aspects of nursing (done with speed and efficency) but all the thoughtful extras to make our daughter feel as comfortable as possible. His professional manner, combined with kindness, gave all of us reassurance during this worrying time.
Unfortunately, our daughter ha had health problems for many years, spending time in and our of various hospitals. We haven't come across anyone quite as amazing as Colin Richards. He is a credit to the nursing profession.
We would be delighted to see him receive a WOW! Awards, as we cannot think of anyone more deserving!
Yours Sincereley,
Celia Cuzner
This could be slightly out of scope, but I hope this captures the essence of the commitment you are seeking to recognise.
I would like to nominate Marilyn Price of Basingstoke Hospital Radio for a WOW! Award in recognition of her tireless support for the radio station and her genuine desire to bring extra cheer to the lives of people staying in the hospital. Marilyn spends an extraordinary amount of time seeking to improve what is offered to patients and I know that she has not received any recognition for this work over the years, apart from one occasion where she received thanks from someone recently widowed who wanted to find a specific piece of music to be played at a memorial service.
I must stress that I have no connection with Basingstoke Hospital Radio, nor have personal experience as a consumer of her radio show. However it would be fantastic if you could seek further feedback from others who are in hospital, to measure what difference this service makes to their lives – and perhaps present Marilyn with something to acknowledge her work.
Many thanks
Allen
Katie has shown care, respect, amd professionalism while looking after my new daughter Poppy, and wife Suzanne. All the staff on the unit have been superb at what is an extremely emotional time for all the family to cope with, and Katie has stood out top of the lot.
I wish to Thank her and the rest of the team for all their effort and for looking after my girls safely.
Thanks!
