34113. Dr George
I have been seeing Dr George for 8 months. He is kind, considerate, listens and most importantly makes you laugh. What A FAB doc seeing him always brightens my day even when I am in pain! Recently I saw him and he sent me to be medically assessed as he wasn't happy with my breathing, he gave me the care that my own GP couldn't, due to him sending me to be assessed I learnt that I had pneumonia and am now currently having the correct care and medication to help me get better.

34078. Noreen
I would like to nominate Noreen for a WOW award. When my grandad became extremely ill and ended up on ICU earlier this month, the nursing staff were all so kind and caring but Noreen was outstanding in every way that she cared for my grandad and us as a visiting family. She was calm, and answered all our numerous questions reassuringly and very professionally but with a warm manner which is what we all desperately needed and we can't thank her enough. Sadly my grandad passed away on ICU on Sunday but during his last two weeks, Noreen treated us with total respect and kindness that really touched our hearts whilst also making sure my grandad was comfortable and well cared for. We can't thank her enough for this.

34121. Trafalgar Ward
Having gone through a very painful procedure I was taken to Trafalgar Ward where right from the start I was treated with compassion , very great care, dignity and most important of all as a human being who was in great distress. For the whole of my 4 nights and 3 days spent in Trafalgar Ward everything was done to help me, no matter what was required. All those involved in my care (and that includes the meal ladies and cleaners) were cheerful, understanding and very gracious in their dealings with me, and I cannot thank them enough for that. I have had other stays in Hospital but this was the best treatment I ever received. Many, many thanks to you all.

34123. Tracey Sandy
Very helpful. I came up for a blood test at 4.50 because my letter from the Doctor said ope until 6pm, so when I got there and it was closed at 4pm I asked someone to help me as I thought it may have been moved. Tracey said she would do the blood test for me as I could not get back in the morning as I have the school run and I don't finish work until 6pm. She was very nice, helpful and understanding. If everyone was as helpful as she was everyone would be very happy with the NHS. Thank you Tracey, job well done. :-)

33896.
Robert Wild has had a bi lateral nephrostomy since November 2012. He has had two full exchanges done and a number of breakages to the on/off connection. On every occasion that the Interventional Radiology Team has been involved with Roberts care, he and I, his daughter, have always received outstanding care, companion and total professionalism. Robert is now nearing end of life and his most recent appointment with the IRT was, as always, a pleasure and the Recovery Team were once again amazing. I would like to add a special mention to Tracey and June who have been so kind to us.

33902. Sean Mcphearson
Sean is such a hard worker and is always in constant demand. Sean is considerate and professional at all times and nothing is too much trouble for him. He is always there for a chat and helps boost staff morale. I think the whole team would agree with this that he is an asset to the emergency department.

33924. Liz
Liz was wonderful with my son who was brought in with a gash on his forehead. She allowed me to breast feed him while she cleaned and fixed him up which was an immense comfort to us both. She was very supportive of our breast feeding relationship which was wonderful for me! :) She is clearly dedicated to her job and was no nice to my little boy!

33931. Danny Mclaughlin
It was like a scene from lord of the rings, Frodo is laying gravely wounded with no energy to help himself just when all hope is lost Arwen rides in and talks him through using only her voice. It sounds dramatic but that's exactly how I felt during an extremely painful labour where I honestly believed I may die and had nothing left to give. This amazing midwife shocked my unshockable birth partners by stopping me screaming the place down and using the energy for getting through she was exceptional I still marvel at how she did it! She was with me through a forceps delivery and if wasn't for my birth partners witnessing it I would be convinced I'd bee n visited by a celestrial being I would love to see Danny teach this type of midwifery one day.

33942. Neil Baker
Whilst on a visit to this ward with my Daughter I found this porter to be very friendly and helpful which made a distressing time a lot easier to deal with, when taking my daughter for her x ray he was very reassuring to both of us and took some of the worry out of the situation. although he was obviously busy he took the time to make sure we were ok and not stressed.

33989. Keats Ward
My father was in the ward from 8th April to 13th May 2013 and every member of staff working on Keats Ward including the catering and cleaning staff tries to make sure the patients needs are attended to at all times. The nursing staff always show patients and visitors care and understanding and always try to explain and give as much information as possible.

33661. Rachel Palmer
I am wishing to nominate Rachel Palmer for a WOW award for her bedside manner and caring attitude that I witnessed first hand. I was recently in Nelson ward and my neighbouring elderly patient was in very poor health. He had memory problems, was bedbound, incontinent, seemed to be in constant discomfort, and his speech very difficult to understand (possibly stroke related). As a result he was often confused and frustrated not knowing where he was and why all these strangers kept manhandling him (cleaning up his accidents, routine observations, BP/bloods). At times he would become aggressive and violent and on the morning where I witnessed Rachels first interaction with him he had already struck out at two staff and was in a very frustrated mood. Just 10 minutes or so later Rachel came to assist him with breakfast. She took the time to learn his speech pattern and understand his questions as well as answer them to his satisfaction, these would often be repeated some time later and she patiently kindly answered them without being patronising or condescending and her calming influence settled his fears. The most amazing part came next, he always refused to eat anything and in the time I was in hospital nobody had been able to get him to eat, yet with persistance and little assistance Rachel was able to get him to take a few mouthfuls of food as well as repeatedly got him to drink independantly. Rachel exhibited a subtle empathic attention to care also noting he would often look at a photo of his wife so she made sure it was upright, stable and within view whereas others may tidy his table and put things anywhere. I am sad to admit I have been discharged a week and not been able to give justice to the quality of this nomination. Having passed on my feedback to the ward manager and spoke personally with Rachel I learnt it was her first day in post (and she seemed young enough to be newly qualified). I have had continuing health problems from a young age and am speaking as an HR professional with 15 years experience in HR and project management so I'd like to hope that I am a good judge of character and identifying key skills and strengths based on limited information. It is so nice to see a member of staff be able to hit the ground running and easily surpass many of the more experienced staff in the NHS in my experience. Congratulations Medway in appointing Rachel, I'm sure she will excel in her role and be a credit to the service.

33685. Anurag Goel and Baktiar Ali
I am nominatimg both doctors as i feel it would be unfair to single one out. Both doctors have worked here for several years. They work tirelessy in the department and improve pt experiance at every oppertunity. They give every thing and more. On the 2.5.13 on a late shift we were given 1/2 an hour notice of a registar going of sick, the registar overnight was informed, who continued to see pt's in a proffesional, manner, manage the department with a calm influence with out any complaints from him. Bearing in mind the depatment was horrendous. Dr Goel was on the day shift and contiued seamlessly to see pt's after his shift had ended without hesitation. Both of these doctors are exemplary to all staff and pt's and deserved to be regconised. This is only one example of rhere fantastic work ethics. There are plenty more if needed.........

33622. Ocelot Ward
During my recovery from a hysterectomy I was fully supported and reassured by the excellent nursing skills of two nursing teams; day shift and night shift between Friday 26/4 and Sunday 28/4 (before 8am) All of these nurses deserve a WOW award as they all treated me as a person not just a patient. I cannot remember all of their names but Esty; Hannah; Olle? in particular were so kind at a time when I felt scared and they made me feel safe. Their cheerful, positive attitudes made me cope and I will always be so very grateful. Thank you!

MY DAUGHTER WHO IS CURRENTLY 16 WEEKS PREGNANT HAD A SLIGHT BLEED ON THE NIGHT OF 5/5/13 GOING INTO THE DAY OF 6/5/13. I SPOKE TO MARIA KNOWING SHE WORKED ON A GYNAE WARD AND GAVE HER MY DAUGHTERS DETAILS, SHE WAS NOT ONLY VERY INFORMATIVE BUT ALSO VERY SUPPORTIVE TO MY DAUGHTER/PARTNER AND MYSELF. I WENT HOME IN THE MORNING FEELING REASSURED THAT ALL WOULD BE OK. ON 6/5/13 WHEN I ARRIVED BACK ON KFW FOR MY NIGHT SHIFT SHE RANG ME TO CHECK HOW MY DAUGHTER WAS, WHO AT THIS STAGE HAD STOPPED BLEEDING BUT WAS STILL IN CONSIDERABLE PAIN. MARIA INSTANTLY ARRANGED FOR MY DAUGHTER TO COME TO OCELOT WARD WHERE SHE INSTANTLY CALMED MY DAUGHTER/PARTNER DOWN, GIVING A FRIENDLY SHOULDER TO CRY ON AND REASSURING WORDS, SHE HAD ALSO ARRANGED FOR THE GYNAE SPR ON CALL TO REVIEW AND SCAN MY DAUGHTER. SHE STAYED WITH MY DAUGHTER WHILST HER SCAN WAS DONE, JUST IN CASE ANY PROBLEMS OCCURED AND GAVE NOTHING BUT REASSURANCE AND SUPPORT. HER PROFESSIONLISM AND CONTINUED SUPPORT PUT ME AND MY FAMILY AT TOTAL EASE AND WE WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL FOR ALL HER HELP IN A SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE SO EASILY BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. OUR TEARS WERE OF GRATITUDE NOT SADNESS AND MARIAS NAME WILL BE FOREVER WITH MY DAUGHTER, SHE HAS PLACED IT IN THE BABIES BOOK AS "THE PERSON WHO HELPED MY MUMMY WHEN I WAS IN HER TUMMY TO KEEP ME SAFE" TNX MARIA.

33454. Juan Pepuse
We are delighted to have the opportunity to nominate Juan Pepuse for this award. On the night of 19th April my husband was taken seriously ill and Juan Pepuse was assigned to him. Throughout the night Juan provided excellent five star care, attention and comfort. Observations were carried out at clockwork timing; his vigilance was something we have never witnessed before and his kindness and detail to comfort was extended to me and my daughter. By the second night Colin was more alert and was able to witness Juan’s care and attention to detail for himself and was overwhelmed. In our minds we have no doubt that Colin's recovery is in a large part due to the care Juan afforded him and we will never be able to thank him enough for it though would ask you to assist us in some part by awarding him a WOW! We can’t think of anyone more deserving, his hard work and immense commitment are a credit to him and Medway Maritime Hospital.

I couldn’t have been looked after better from the time I arrived until the time I left for home in the afternoon. It was nice to see how everyone worked together and everything was explained to me so clearly. I will be seeing you all again shortly.
