33362. Sharon Blake
I would like to nominate Sharon for both her professionalism and personal care towards myself and my baby Nyla. Since arriving on Pearl ward, I was emotionally distressed and in a lot of pain, Sharon went out of her way to settle me into the ward and physically supported me and my baby by showing how to change the baby’s nappy which I had not done before. Sharon also gave me advice on how to control the blood loss after my long and stressful labour. Sharon assured me that everything I was going through was natural and not to worry. Sharon was always willing to help with my issues I had or questions. Sharon is a genuine passion and patient for the people she comes into contact with. Since then, I have been confident and independent thanks to Sharon’s encouragement and belief in me.

33367. Infusion suite teams
I had occasion on 21 February 2013 and 7 March 2013 for two infusions and I was impressed by the level of professionalism on display, coupled with genuine consideration for the well-being of the patient being to the fore. This shows how front line staff are able to provide a “first class” service to the patient when given the means and not interfered with by over-bearing bureau occupy It is my view that the infusion is as good as it is solely due to the staff. All of them staff deserve the top WOW award in my view.

33370. Chris Johnson
Chris has looked after my mum beyond and above his care and duty. He is a sensitive caring man, who always had time to listen and be a comfort. He shows dignity and respect for his patients, even when he is just so busy. When my mum died, he gave us respect and sympathy and showed great compassion. This I believe is the qualities of a good nurse. I just wish all nurses could see his good practice!

33322. Kingfisher Ward / Sau Team
11/03/2013 I have been admitted 3 times in 3 weeks for bowel obstructions due to bowel adhesions. I have had to have laparoscopic keyhole surgery to remove the adhesions. The pre op and post op treatment I have received has been outstanding. All the staff have made me say ‘wow’ due to their first class professionalism and knowledge, but not only that, their kindness, compassion, friendliness and skills has helped me with my physical and mental health recovery. I have had close family members pass away during my staff in hospital and the staff have been brilliant in supporting me emotionally. A previous error in surgery had made me terrified of more surgery, but this team and their brilliance has restored my faith. Thank you so much.

11/03/2013 I have been admitted 3 times in 3 weeks for bowel obstructions due to bowel adhesions resulting in keyhole laparoscopic surgery performed by Mr Hrik Wegstapel. Due to a previous bad surgery experience, I was terrified, but Mr Wegstapel and his team of Liam, Nabil and Sevi all made me feel a lot more relaxed, calm and in safe hands. The surgery went very well and my recovery is progressing well too. Mr Wegstapel and his team have been outstanding in their skill and professionalism and have made an awful time much more bearable. Their care and support has aided both my emotional / mental and physical health. Their outstanding commitment to their patients has made me and my family say ‘WoW’ – a really first class service. 33326. Kelly Jarvis, Malcolm Brown Deo Malanog.
I had to attend the Medway Hospital on Friday 1st March at 4:20pm for a urgent CT Angiogram Aortic Arch aid Carotiols. Unknown to the team within the CT Department I was due to be admitted to Hurstwood Park Hospital in Sussex for my cerebral ancurysm, which meant that the timescale of 2 weeks for the results of the CT angiogram to be reported, would have been of no use to anyone at Hurstwood Park, even though it was vital that this particular angiogram was carried out, because it was crucial informing part of the neuro team’s treatment / management care. The team that I saw this particularly day were simply amazing, nothing was too much trouble and to eleviate my fears, they stated that they would do everything in their powers to get the report concluded and uploaded on the electronic system, thus enabling Hurstwood Park to view the details, which I arrived in Hospital. The team in the CT Department bent over backwards and managed to get the report finalised and completed for first thing on the Monday morning i.e.; 4th March 2013. Words failed me, absolutely incredible, especially as such a worrying time for me and my family. I am suffering with an abdominal aorta aneurysm, Heart attack and 7 stents, empty sella syndrome of the pituitary gland and severe hormone imbalance an now a cerebral ancurysm, a massive scare for me! Without a doubt, the CT Dept deserve the WOW awards, they were simply incredible. Their care and support was absolutely impeccable. Well done team.

33329. Helen (? don’t know surname)
I came as an emergency admission from Medoc. Helen was on duty on 23rd January 2013 and her shift finished at 8. Helen was covering the men’s bit, but processed me. Helen was kind, helpful and made me feel safe. She told me exactly what was happening, stayed with me even when I went into the women’s side and made my first visit to this hospital a more positive experience. Helen was everything a sick person needed. Helen clearly cares deeply about what she does and her patients. Helen came to see me before going off duty and held my hand telling me she would see me tomorrow. Helen was just brilliant.

Always cheerful, always willing to help whatever the problem, makes time for the patients to chat with her even when she’s very busy. One day she ‘ran’ bay D when an agency nurse was, in my view, under pressure.

33332. The entire nursing /staff and catering in the Nelson Cardiac Ward
I am 90 years old. I have heart trouble. I went to A & E at Medway Maritime Hospital on Friday 22 February 2013 suffering from Angina. I was treated quickly and efficiently and then taken to the Bronte assessment unit where my symptoms were successfully treated. On the Saturday or Sunday I was transferred to Nelson Ward for recovery and I was discharged on Friday 1ST March 2013. I have to say I was genuinely amazed at the high quality of care and compassion with which I and all other patients in the ward were treated by all the nursing staff and the catering staff. No task was too small for the staff to deal with in a very professional manner. I was also amazed at the care provided to Patients who were completely disorientated or uncooperating. In my view the staff in nelson ward show an exceptionally professional approach. They are a great credit to the hospital.
