32407. Helen Davis
I was in Kingsfisher Ward for a week from 30/1/13 to 5/2/13. There were many staff on both the day shifts and night shifts that showed great skill, professionalism, and care for the patients, and worked well with each other as a team. My situation, and that of the other patients in the same room, seemed to keep the staff busy constantly for the whole week, but they always maintained a calm, professional attitude. Although several of the staff shone even brighter than the rest, Helen was the nurse who always went that extra step to give her time: to listen to someone's morphine-addled ramblings, to reassure that the symptoms WILL ease in time, to help and advise on coping-methods after leaving hospital, to lift the spirits of both the patients and other staff members, and to help us cope until we were in a position to cope for ourselves. Helen was not the only staff member who put more in to their work than was necessary, and more than would have sufficed, but she was the person who made the most difference to me.

32431. Eunice Onaiyekan
Eunice has lead the move to update and re launch the Hospital Passport for adults with a learning disability. The amount of hard work, commitment and enthusiasm from Eunice has been an inspiration. As a result the Passport was launched on Friday 22 March 2013 at Medway Maritime Hospital. As this document is rolled out to all adults with a Learning Disability in the area it should help to improve the treatment they receive in hospital, and indeed across the NHS. This will be a key factor in the hospitals work to improve the health and wellbeing of adults with a learning disability in Medway. Eunice has kept the project a live and been the anchor without whom it would definitely have foundered. A huge thank you Eunice for all you hard work and your patient and cheerful approach. You never get discouraged!

32454. Jackie Hart
I was advised by my doctor that I needed to be seen in SAU. The first person that attended to me was a staff nurse called Jackie, she explained everything that was going to happen and made me feel very comfortable from the start. I know this is how staff should treat you but most just don't seem to have the time, but she made sure I was aware of the procedures to follow and I felt that she really looked after me. She checked on me regularly and made sure I was ok throughout my time there and dealt with any concerns that I had very professionally. She was very down to earth and I felt that she sympathised with my condition. I did say thank you but on the way out I saw this advertised and thought what a good way to express my satisfaction.

I was very nervous about this appointment, but from the moment I walked in the receptionist (Kelly) made me feel at ease plus was very cheerful and made me laugh, this then carried on through the whole process, so except for feeling embarrassed and slight discomfort the experience was made a lot better.

32005. Kate Gray and the ICU Staff
On Monday 7th January my mum Margaret Hayward was brought into A and E resus extremely poorly. We were told that she didn't have much hope of pulling through and to prepare ourselves for the worst over the following 24 hours. Mum was transferred to ICU where with excellent nursing and care and dedication she amazed all staff and is now doing extremely well. All of the staff on the unit not only were nursing my mum, they all became friends and supported us through a very difficult time. They are all amazing people.

32009. Glen
I was recently at the Medway for a procedure, didn't know my way around then saw a person pushing a trolley whom I thought was a volunteer taking books and teas to wards. The trolley was lit and decorated and I asked this man the way and we had a chat, it turned out that he delivered the post and was an employee. Well he made my day, now if only a few more people were like him. That's the reason I thought I would take the time to give him a wow, and he made me smile and took the anxiety I was feeling away. (December 2012)

32015. Kelly and the CT Team
On 13th January I had a CT scan booked, I rang spoke to Kelly on the 11th January, I was petrified to have the scan done. In her calm, professional way she convinced me to have the scan done, I said to her I wish she could do it, she rang me back and changed my appointment to when she was on duty, good to her word when I arrived she gave me loads of reassurance, as did everyone on duty, everyone in the CT department. Before I knew it the needle and drug were inserted into my arm, being kept informed throughout. The whole experience has put great faith back onto my mindset, everyone was so very kind, caring and professional, I will never worry again if I ever have to have another CT scan at Medway. Well done and double wow to you all in the CT department, you are all amazing, top marks. Go private, forget it, Go Medway CT department.

32029. The Pre-Op Ward
The team were exceptionally welcoming to us all, and were very friendly, and always smiling. They took a genuine interest in our emotional welfare, and took time to keep us updated. It would be great for the nurses to get a little more support from cleaning staff to ensure any traces/spots of blood are removed from the floor etc. They are obviously a hard-working team who were always professional and diligent with a good bedside manner.

31825. Mary
The nurse mary was workin on 3/3/13 on sunderland. The ward was understaffed. I was in a lot of pain and not one of the easiest patients. Despite this mary looked after me with outstanding quality of care and made sure i was comfortable. Even after doing a 12 hour shift she came back and made sure i had taken my antibiotics. Actually moved me that someone can go above and beyond her duty of care

32130. Anne Marie Moore
Anne Marie is always there whenever we have a problem in Neurology she always takes time to listen to any problems we have and replys to emails very quickly. We had a problem with a patient arriving 30 mins late for a appointment today as they had travelled a long way and the car parking was bad the consultant refused to see the patient and on calling Anne Marie she got involved solving the problem and getting the patient seen straight way. She always has a smile and is a great asset to Neurology.
