33329. Helen (? don’t know surname)
I came as an emergency admission from Medoc. Helen was on duty on 23rd January 2013 and her shift finished at 8. Helen was covering the men’s bit, but processed me. Helen was kind, helpful and made me feel safe. She told me exactly what was happening, stayed with me even when I went into the women’s side and made my first visit to this hospital a more positive experience. Helen was everything a sick person needed. Helen clearly cares deeply about what she does and her patients. Helen came to see me before going off duty and held my hand telling me she would see me tomorrow. Helen was just brilliant.

33330. Pauline Hillier
Not long before Christmas, I lost my husband; he died in a tragic accident. He was my carer and did everything for me. I have rheumatoid arthritis also lymphoedema. I went into shock, and had to have treatment for the trauma. Pauline helped me and spent ages talking to me while treating me as it damaged my neck and my voice box and shoulders. Her patience and care was outstanding. I belong to the RA Physio group, and she works with us lots of the group loves Pauline for her interest in her work and her care for all. I find it very hard as we were married over 50 years, we loved each other very much. Pauline is still helping me. She deserves a WOW award, and it is obvious she loves her job.

33331. Leila Carstairs Phoenix Ward
Always cheerful, always willing to help whatever the problem, makes time for the patients to chat with her even when she’s very busy. One day she ‘ran’ bay D when an agency nurse was, in my view, under pressure.

33332. The entire nursing /staff and catering in the Nelson Cardiac Ward
I am 90 years old. I have heart trouble. I went to A & E at Medway Maritime Hospital on Friday 22 February 2013 suffering from Angina. I was treated quickly and efficiently and then taken to the Bronte assessment unit where my symptoms were successfully treated. On the Saturday or Sunday I was transferred to Nelson Ward for recovery and I was discharged on Friday 1ST March 2013. I have to say I was genuinely amazed at the high quality of care and compassion with which I and all other patients in the ward were treated by all the nursing staff and the catering staff. No task was too small for the staff to deal with in a very professional manner. I was also amazed at the care provided to Patients who were completely disorientated or uncooperating. In my view the staff in nelson ward show an exceptionally professional approach. They are a great credit to the hospital.

33336. Tracy How
In the absence of the receptionist, Tracy took on board the concern of the waiting patient regarding excess car park charges brought about by the delay of over one hour in seeing De Halpem. She resolved the issue by arriving with security so that my elderly mother and four other patients did not have to pay excessive car parking charges. She did this in a friendly and positive manner using strong communications skills.

33338. All the staff of Wakeley ward
On 27th December 2012, I was admitted to Wakeley ward with pneumonia due to having C.O.P.D, every member of staff no matter what position they held took the time to give me the most wonderful care. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them, they even found time to sit by my bed for a chat. Because of this I was never frightened or ever made to feel that it was my fault that I was ill because I had smoked in the past. All the staff were so kind, friendly and compassionate, they deserve medals. They were always smart in their appearance and the ward was kept immaculate. I have heard some really bad things said about your hospital and it has made me so angry But I tell everyone about my stay and my family also commented on the staff and the way I was treated and they’re very impressed. Sorry it has taken a few weeks to send in this form because I’m still recovering from being poorly. If the staff do not win a WOW award I would like to know why? Each of them deserve a big “pat on the back and a medal for the front. I’m sure this will not be m y only stay on this ward and if and when I have to stay again, I and my family know that I will be looked after by the best staff in your hospital. Thank you for reading this.
