27380. EMMA HAWKINS
While on a run of night shifts on BCCU I came across Emma scrubbing the stairwell at the side of AMU. Emma was on her hands and knees using a brillo pad to clean every inch of brown zones staircase. Her hard work has made a huge difference and the stairs now look amazing. When I asked Emma whos idea it was she replied"I wanted to do this,it will look nice and clean for patients and staff". I think she is a credit to the housekeeping team and deserves recognition for her hard work.

27448. Jacky
I would like to nominate Jacky. I attended the Sunderland day care center on Tue 30 Nov 2012 in the morning, and Jacky was assigned to be my nurse. Obviously I was very nervous about having an operation, but as soon as I met her she relaxed me by her calm, polite and professional manner and the way she conducted herself. I did not feel I was in a hospital and she even accompanied me to the operating theatre, and was there when I came round. Its hard to describe the way she made me feel all the time I was there right up to my leaving. A very very good experience.

27187. Tennyson Ward
This ward is incredibley well run, the entire staff work so well as a team! This is my second visit of another two weeks visiting most of the day with my mother. I live in America and used to private hospitals, but the care, kindness and cleanliness of this ward is exemploary, a tight well run ship to be precise. Well done!!

27188. Wendy Chivers, Kay McKenzie
6.10.12 Arrived at reception at 7.20am feeling tired and somewhat anxious at the thought of the operation ahead. Greeted by two smiling faces and happy individuals, which immediately raised my spirit and made the next half an hour or so a happy experience. I am now feeling very positive about the rest of my stay in hospital.

27191. Rhea Cosico
A hospital is judged by its staff as much as anything. I found them to be 95% above reproach. As in any night sky one star is always brightest, Nurse Rhea Cosico - so thoughtful, caring and kind that my vocabulary fails me.

27177. Rosie Woolman & Ligaya (Joy) Regala
Both nurses displayed a caring, kind, professional attitude. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They responded to the buzz quickly and with a smile. They were informative when asked a question regarding an operation. All the staff were brilliant but the two nurses above were outstanding. Thank you.

27178. Cathie Beare & Sarah Vickery The Bridging Surgical Care Team
After my recent radical nephrectomy and rapid discharge, I felt very vulnerable and confused. However I needn’t have worried. The two nurses in this team appeared the morning after discharge (complete with medication) to allay any worries. They checked my stitches, showed me the best way to administer the necessary daily injections with least bruising possible and coached me with breathing exercises. They reassured me I could call on them daily for the immediate future (luckily I didn’t need to) and finally they removed my staples with gentle care and compassion. These two angels helped me greatly through a traumatic time. I say WOW and THANK YOU!!

27181. Lee Bousquest
We were unable to locate a wheelchair for my husband who has radically reduced mobility due to vascular dementia and alzhimers, and he had reached a point where he was unable to move and was on the point of collapse. Lee was just passing and noticed our predicament. He was extremely sympathetic and told me not to worry as he was going to go and find a wheel chair. He did this fairly quickly and insisted on taking my husband to the ECG department. He made sure he was alright, also establishing with aother member of staff that the chair was returned. I was extremely grateful for his help and compassion.

27183. Dr Buist and the pain team
I would like to comment on the outstanding care I have received from Dr Buist and his team over the last two years. He is totally patient-centred; and he seems willing to go the extra mile. The same goes for his staff. For example, If his clinic is running late, the nurse will tell you how far behind it is, so you can go and get fresh air; and if you go to the tea bar, she will come and find you there herself, shortly before you are due to be seen. I would also like to mention the incredibly helpful clerical staff, who actually return calls and do their best to help whenever possible truly patient-centred; everyone else talks about it, they do it.
